A total of four different subpopulations of Curcuma vamana were observed (2014-17) in a recent field works. Each of them having 5-6 individuals (M. Sabu pers. comm. 2018).

The major threats affecting the population are construction of buildings, widening of road, erosion by heavy rain and using barren lands for cultivation (these are the major threats currently acting on the plants). This will lead to loss of habitat and also direct mortality of the species.
