The species is known from 20 collections, in 10 locations. It is not a clonal species, therefore, not many shoots are found in every collection point, counting from two to five individuals in each. The population size is estimated to be between 100 and 1,000 individuals.

The populations in Maninjau are very close to a road which exposes them to collection and disturbed by the road sides clearance. Its habitat is undergoing continuing decline caused by tourism development.
