The species forms small subpopulations. The subpopulations on Valtos Mt and the area of Arta do not exceed 200 individuals in total. The subpopulation on Mt Arakynthos is smaller than 500 individuals while the subpopulations found in eastern Pindos (in the areas of Trikala and Karditsa) range between 20 and 500 individuals (Karablianis and Constantinidis in Phitos et al. 2009). There are several other subpopulations, without further information on population size.

The species faces minor local threats by collectors removing plants fom the wild in order to cultivate the species for ornamental reasons.
