The species can often be found in considerable numbers, although in localized areas. It is distributed in about 20 subpopulations. A decline of the subpopulation on Psiloritis is suspected for the last 20 years, due to road infrastructures and overgrazing.

In the Psiloritis area the species is exposed to overgrazing and trampling. In the Lassithi area the species could be affected by increased cultivation and land use changes. Road infrastructure development in the island has fragmented some subpopulations.
