In some localities within its range this species has virtually colonized the area and it occurs over a long length of the Caribbean coastline of central America. For the AOO calculated at 12,800 km2, it is not unreasonable to estimate 10 plants per km2, totalling 128,000 individuals.

This species is very common within its Area of Occupancy and there are substantial populations including within the Cahuita National Park, but no monitoring plan is in place. The species is also widely cultivated commercially but mostly from clones of few collections. Ex situ seed bank conservation is needed.
