This assessor has observed this species in the northern part of its range at Cerro Nara and in the southern part on the Osa Peninsula and the hills above Golfito. In the Cerro Nara area the species is quite common with an estimated 10 plants per km2, but on the Osa Peninsula and the hills above Golfito it is more widely dispersed with only an occasional plant occurring at the rate of about three plants per km2 within the AOO. Using these estimates with GeoCAT, the populations were calculated at 3,000 plants in the northern region and 2,125 plants in the southern Osa region. The overall estimated population size is 5,000 individuals.

This species is currently well represented in protected areas but its Extent of Occurrence is limited to a fairly small area, endemic to Costa Rica. Research is needed to monitor the available habitat and population trends. Ex situ seed bank conservation is also needed.
