Costus glaucus

This assessor has observed this species in four different localities in Costa Rica, but in each of these places, the species was rather rare and widely disbursed with only a single plant at each site.  Based on these observations and on the paucity of collection records for the large EEO, there are likely to be few plants per km² in the area of occupancy.  Based on five plants per km² of the AOO, the population size is estimated at 9,500 mature individuals.  It is suspected that there has been some decline in population size in the past three generation lengths and this is expected to continue but not at a substantial rate since most of the remaining plants are believed to be in protected areas not subject to habitat loss.
