The population is estimated to average one plant per km2 of the AOO, which equals 8,219 individuals. The estimate is based on this assessors observations at three localities, one at which the species was fairly common and the other two where it was uncommon.

There is some slight level of threat of reforestation for banana plantations, especially in the southern coastal areas of Costa Rica, but the species is well populated in protected areas of Reserva Hitoy-Cerere and Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo.
