This species is reported from 64 ex situ collections (BGCI 2017). This species is found in several protected areas (Protected Planet 2017). Two of the subspecies have been assessed as Least Concern in China (var. sutchuenensis and var. heterophylla) (Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Chinese Academy of Sciences 2014). Management of nut harvesting has been undertaken in various areas and appears to be sustainable.
