A very common species across most of its range. However, there is no hard data on population numbers due to it being common and not an important commercial species. This species is listed as Globally Secure by NatureServe, however, populations in Ohio are Possible Extirpated, those in Delaware are Critically Imperiled, those in Wyoming are imperiled and those in Louisiana Newfoundland and Maryland are Vulnerable.
