État de la populationExpert
It is reported to be abundant in areas of extreme dryness in summer, in contrast to the conditions of permanent inundation during the rainy months (Stauffer 2007, Galeano and Bernal 2010).
Description complète des menacesExpert
There are no major threats to the survival of this species at present. Very old collections from the former Netherlands Antilles (e.g., Curaçao) are likely to have suffered as a result of habitat loss due to an expanding human population. In Venezuela, human induced fires, especially on private properties (cattle ranches), may represent an increasing risk.

The species is known from protected areas such as the Parque Nacional Isla de Salamanca (Galeano and Bernal 2010), the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Natural National Park (Colombia) and Aquaro-Guariquito (Venezuela). No ex situ seed collections are known to have been made, but cultivated specimens can be found in botanic gardens.
