État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
The size of the current population of this species is unknown. However, in 1996, a field survey found about 1,200 individuals in four subpopulations, ranging from a single relict tree to healthy subpopulations numbering around 500 (Johnson 1998). The population is inferred to be in decline because of its use in construction. One population on the peninsula of Mole St. Nicolas is on land leased from the government of Haiti for wind energy production so could potential be lost during construction.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
There are five recorded ex situ collections (BGCI 2018), including at Fairchild Tropical Gardens and Jardin Botanico Santo Domingo. It is also found in private residences in the Port-au-Prince and Petionville areas. There is a need to survey the population, to conserve the species in both ex situ and in situ, to restore the habitat and to raise awareness of the importance of the species.
This species was previously assessed as Endangered (Johnson 1998).
