Considering habitat degradation and the low number of collections, the population is likely to be declining. The original publication (Ridley 1922) recorded the species as common in forest of Negeri Sembilan, Bukit Tangga. There is currently intact forest in this area, suggesting that the species may be locally abundant even if there may be a decline in the population size as whole.

Both intact tree cover and converted land can be seen in and around the two locations. None is however protected.
