Although the distribution is large, the species is only known from a few collections, all made before 1968 (ZRC 2019). Habitat degradation suggests that the population is declining.

Satellite imagery shows signs of land conversion in some of the sites where the species has been collected (GFW 2019). Forests of Sumatra are under continuous threat of being converted to e.g. palm oil plantations (WWF 2019).
