Many subpopulations in Portugal, the Balearic Islands and in mainland Spain have large densities of individuals. In southern France (Provence), populations are reported to be declining (Fridlender and Pignal 2013). In North Africa, the status of the populations is unknown. Current population trends are unknown but suspected to be stable, at least in the Iberian Peninsula.
