There is no information about population size of this species, however it is found in three subpopulations (Cabo Samaná, Cabo Cabrón, Punta Balandra) (Henderson 2023).

There is ongoing deforestation and loss of habitat in the Samaná Peninsula due to marble mining, agriculture, livestock, and tourism development which are threatening this species localities.

This palm is present in two protected areas: Parque Nacional Cabo Cabron and Monumento Natural Cabo Samaná (López-Belando and Mateo-Feliz 2020, Salazar and Peguero 1994). This species is assessed as Endangered in the Dominican Republic Red List (Garcia et al. 2016).
