In Cuba, the species is mostly found in two locations near Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo Bay, separated by urban areas and coastal development. It is locally scarce with a restricted EOO and a decline in its AOO. An earlier report that the population exceeds 10,000 mature individuals needs to be confirmed. The overall population is considered in decline due to ongoing deforestation and loss of habitat associated with development (Global Forest Watch 2022).
