The population is stable as inferred by its widespread abundance on Hispaniola, its occurrence in altered habitats and its tolerance to disturbance.

There are no major threats to the species. The species is tolerant of disturbed conditions and occurs in many habitats severely altered due to agriculture, livestock grazing and development.

There are no reported conservation programs associated with this species. The species is represented in several protected areas of the Dominican Republic, but has not been reported from any of those in Haiti. The species is found in 30 ex situ locations (BGCI 2022).

Peguero et al. (2015) and Zona et al. (2007) assessed the species as Least Concern. What is now considered C. argentea sensu lato may be segregated in the future among different taxa. At such time, the species should be re-assessed based on new taxonomic studies.
