État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
Observations in the field suggest that this species is abundant in its area of occupancy. It is one the most abundant and dominant species in the Talamanca páramos (Pohl 1982, Horn and Clark 1992) and is estimated to cover up to 60% of Costa Rica’s páramo (Kappelle and Horn 2016).

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
The main threat to this species habitat is from climate change. Warming temperatures may result in the replacement of the bamboo and grass communities of the páramo by trees or invasive species already occupying lower elevations (Kappelle and Horn 2016). Further, this species does not rapidly colonize new areas and its spread may be limited by the heavy grazing of shoots by rodents (Horn and Clark 1992). However, levels of habitat loss in the páramo have so far been low in Costa Rica and most patches are well protected from human disturbance.
