Areas with the highest anthropogenic influence where this species is found: Ipiranga, São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro (e.g., Barra da Trijuca, Morro Queimado and Guanabara). There are no direct threats affecting this species, however there are several threats which affect the eco-regions in which it is found: In Cerrado, the major threats include agricultural expansion (which may include frequent burning), charcoal production, and water projects. Cattle grazing, which destroys native grassland habitats, is also a threat. In the Atlantic forests (Bahia coastal and interior forests, Serra do Mar coastal forests, and Araucaria moist forests) the major habitat threats include urbanization, industrialization, logging, agricultural expansion, and road building. In the flooded forests of Marajó Varzeá, selective logging of the kapok tree and virola is accelerating deforestation. The open floodplains are threatened by conversion to cattle ranching. Roads built through the region open up access to previously remote areas and lead to erosion and increased use of the natural resources. In the Alto Paraná Atlantic forests timber extraction and agriculture represent continuous threats. Such activities will increase as human populations expand and put increased pressure on timber trees.

This species has been found in the following protected areas, however there is no specific conservation management of the species:

One specimen possibly found in Discovery Coast Atlantic Forest Reserves (World Heritage Convention), or in the proposed buffer zone surrounding the reserve. Both existing and proposed conservation units are in an excellent state of conservation, and include almost 80% of remaining Atlantic forest that remains in Brazil. Timber extraction and transportation of vegetation has been banned.

Four specimens were found within the Atlantic Forest Southeast Reserves (World Heritage Convention), one of which may overlap with the Superagüi National Park (IUCN category II). All the Atlantic forest occurring in Sao Paulo State has been declared under special protection and management plans are being implemented in all protected areas.

Four specimens have been found in Tijuca National Park (IUCN category II). However, the park is located virtually within the city of Rio de Janeiro, in an urban area with 5 million inhabitants and suffers from uncontrolled visiting and insufficient funds.

There have also been three specimens located in the vicinity of the national parks of Iguaçu, São Joaquim, and Caparaó. The latter two are both IUCN category II.

Ecoregion level conservation:
Much of the Atlantic Forests in Brazil have been lost to urban development. WWF, Conservation International, SOS Mata Atlântica, and many other colleagues are working to conserve the largest, most viable forest remnants and prevent any additional deforestation or degradation of these remnants. They are also working with the government to establish and maintain a network of protected areas. At the same time, they are working with private landowners to develop strategies for restoring degraded areas and protect corridors that will link the remaining tracts of forest and protect highly endangered rain forest species. To protect the biodiversity of the Marajó Varzeá ecoregion, part of the strategy is to establish new protected areas and build the capacity of local park staff to manage and protect these areas, addressing the issues of deforestation in the floodplains and headwaters, and dam building, which destroys natural flood and sedimentation cycles.
