Summary results from a workshop in 2020 (Mandujano Sánchez 2020) put the total known population at 307 plants with 165 adults. Other estimates are that the subpopulation at Aquismon in San Luis Potosi consists of 150 plants, and there are unconfirmed reports from cavers for additional locations above Aquismon. Modelled data from Martínez-Domínguez et al. (2018) also show that the distribution range may be greater than currently known. The estimated population size is 300-1,000 mature individuals.
