État de la populationExpert
The known population of Ceratozamia chimalapensis is estimated to be less than 3,000 individuals. However, because of its dispersed population in the Sierra Atravesada there may exist more subpopulations. There is no information on population trends and regarding abundance, we consider it rare (A. Vovides pers. obs. 2010).

Description complète des menacesExpert

During 1998 and 2002, one of the subpopulations of Ceratozamia chimalapensis, then under study, suffered intense forest fires that affected approximately 482 000 ha of tropical forest. These fires resulted in a high seedling mortality. The habitat has been subjected to relatively rapid transformation of its habitat into pastureland and coffee plantations (Vovides et al. 2008).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The area in which Ceratozamia chimalapensis occurs is not protected as a national park or biosphere reserve in spite of these forests lying within the southern limits of the ‘Arc’ floristic refuge. It would be desirable to implement nurseries aimed at sustainable management of the species for commerce and reforestation coupled with habitat protection.  Further explorations are necessary to determine if there are more subpopulations and to quantify the state of the present known population (A. Vovides pers. obs. 2010). C. chimalapensis is listed in CITES Appendix I.
