There are two known subpopulations of Ceratozamia brevifrons which are considered to be the remnants of a once larger population that has been fragmented. Population estimates indicate values of 3,000 to 5,000 mature individuals. (Vovides et al. 2012). According to Martínez-Domínguez et al. (2018) this species occurs over a larger area than previously documented. No new population numbers are available. The taxon has experienced a loss of habitat estimated as 68% over the past three generations.
