The type locality is surrounded by extensive agricultural lands and dense settlements. Historical satellite imagery shows a drastic reduction in vegetation cover and parallel expansion of anthropogenic impacts, mainly agriculture and settlement. In addition to agricultural and settlement expansion, overgrazing and the collection of woody species for firewood are threats to the type locality of the species.

The type locality is at the western boundary of Arsi Mountains National Park. However, this national park was only designated in 2011 and there is no information regarding Management Effectiveness Evaluations (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2023). The species is not known to be subject to ex situ conservation (BGCI 2023).
