Castanopsis pierrei occurs in a number of subpopulations throughout Cambodia and Thailand. It is occasionally also reported from Viet Nam and Lao PDR. The region has seen extensive deforestation (logging) and habitat conversion for agriculture (rubber, bananas, rice), road construction and urbanization. Sites outside protected areas may no longer hold subpopulations of this species.
