Castanopsis namdinhensis occurs in a number of subpopulations throughout Cambodia, Lao PDR and Viet Nam. The region has seen extensive deforestation (logging) and habitat conversion for agriculture (rubber, bananas, rice), road construction and urbanization. Some sites outside protected areas may no longer hold subpopulations of this species.
