Castanopsis microphylla occurs in a number of subpopulations in Indonesian and Malaysian Borneo. The area has seen extensive logging, seasonal burning and land conversion to rubber and palm oil plantations. Some of these subpopulations outside protected areas may no longer hold any individuals.
