There species is considered common within Sarawak (Soepadmo et al. 2000). In the undisturbed lowland dipterocarps forests of Kalimantan the species is rare and has an average density of <1 tree per hectare (Kartawinata et al. 2006, 2008). In the lower montane forests in West Java C. javanica occurs at densities of between 8 and 100 trees (Abdulhadi et al. 1988, Simbolon and Mirmanto 1997, Yamada 1975). At one site the density increased from 10 to 43 trees per 2 hectares in 17 years (Abdulhadi et al. 1988). The lowland forests of Java are almost completely gone and so the species is only found in nature reserve and national parks in lowland areas but its abundance is greater in montane forests (K. Kartawinata pers. comm. 2017). Due to its occurrence within hill and lowland dipterocarp forests, a habitat that is currently declining in area, extent and quality, it is suspected that the population of C. javanica is in decline. Despite this, the species does occur in montane forests which remain extensive across the species range and somewhat act as a buffer against population loss.

This species is threatened by deforestation. In Kalimantan and Sumatra the rate of deforestation hence extinction of species in the lowland areas is comparable to the rate of establishment of plantations especially for palm oil (K. Kartawinata pers. comm. 2017). The scale of loss this has caused to the species is unknown.

This species is reported from 1 ex situ collection (BGCI PlantSearch), it is recommended that further ex situ collections of this species are made. It is also recommended that there is greater planting of the species in city parks, garden, arboreta and as a street tree. It could also be used for regeneration and re-vegetation of degraded lands (K. Kartawinata pers. comm. 2017). This tree is known from protected areas within Java. Further information on this species population and ecology should be gathered. The impact of deforestation and logging for the species timber should also be investigated.
