The species is considered to be widespread and common in Sarawak. The species is present in protected areas; outside these there may be some decline due to habitat loss, but this is believed to be minor.

The wider area has seen extensive deforestation and habitat conversion for agriculture and urbanization. The species may be at risk occasionally due to local logging and firewood collection.

Recommended conservation actions include sustainable collection and conservation in ex situ sites as well as additional research on the species to better understand its population size, trends, and threats. The species is present in Totally Protected Areas in Sabah and Sarawak. In Sabah the species is considered regionally Endangered (E. Khoo pers. comm. 2023).
