Castanopsis endertii occurs in a number of subpopulations throughout Indonesian and Malaysian Borneo. The species is very widespread, but the range has experienced widespread deforestation, burning and habitat conversion.

The main threat to this species is land-use change for agriculture and urbanization. The species may also be threatened by non targeted logging activities/unintentional effects of logging activities and collection as fuelwood.
