Castanopsis clarkei occurs in a number of subpopulations throughout Thailand, Yunnan (China), Lao PDR and Viet Nam. No locality information is known for Tibet [Xizang], India and Myanmar. It is possible that these may yet be found, however all three have seen large-scale forest loss and conversion to agriculture. Similar threats exist in Yunnan, Lao PDR and Viet Nam.
