Description complète des menacesExpert
The primary threat to the species is very rapid habitat destruction throughout its range, in particular due to increased subsistence farming and commercialized agriculture of kava for national and international markets.  Low to mid-elevational rainforest areas where the species is found is already limited and extremely fragmented.  In addition, the species is monocarpic, producing fruit and seeds only once, and is often used as an emergency source of food after disasters.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

Native forest fragments where the species is found should be targeted as protected sites. Local nurseries should be established to enhance subpopulations and restore degraded forest patches. The status of the species as unique and threatened should be conveyed to the local people, including reinstatement of traditional tabus associated with this species.
