In Mexico, the federal government has classified the species as "subject to special protection”. The Red List of Mexican Cloud Forest Trees lists it as Near Threatened, however the Red List of Trees of Guatemala does not include Carpinus tropicalis as threatened. In El Salvador this species is not included on the list of threatened and endangered species. In Honduras the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) does not include this species in the Species of Special Concern list.

Nicaragua does not have an official federal government list of threatened and endangered species. On Nicaraguan government websites they refer to the IUCN Red List, 2006 and the CITES Appendix 1 and Appendix 2 lists for threatened and endangered species in Nicaragua.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
As with any forest product the harvest and use of this species needs to be carried out using principles of sustainable forestry. Also, additional efforts need to be made to prevent illegal timber harvest and deforestation of these important ecosystems. Where possible, reforestation projects should be implemented.
