The species has a fragmented distribution along the Li-Wu River, around 20 km long area. Its population is small. There is no available data on the whether the population is increasing, declining or stable as no long term observation has been carried out as of yet (R. Hsu, Researcher, Taiwan Forestry Research Institute, pers. comm. February 5, 2014). Decline in quality of habitat and number of mature individuals is projected due to threats of a small and fragmented population in unstable habitats (see Threats section).

Its present habitat is protected at Taroko National Park. A possible threat to this small and fragmented population is habitat instability, for example landslides after typhoons (R. Hsu, Researcher, Taiwan Forestry Research Institute, pers. comm. February 5, 2014).

The present habitat of this species is located in the Taroko National Park which is a protected area, but this does not provide protection against the natural threats identified. This species would benefit from ex situ conservation to provide additional protection against natural threats. This species was assessed as Rare in the Flora of Taiwan (1996).
