Description complète des menacesExpert
Throughout the region, lowland rainforests have lost a large percentage of their cover and are fragmented due to conversion to agricultural land, plantations (e.g., cotton, soybeans, rubber, cocoa, sugar cane) and pastures, human settlement, road construction and mining. However, collections of this species in secondary forest, coffee and cacao plantations, citrus and orange orchards and by roadsides (specimen data, Romero-Gonzalez and Fernandez-Concha 2005) suggest a good ability to regenerate and persist in disturbed and secondary vegetation. This species does not appear to have any ornamental value.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species has been collected within conservation areas, such as the Tikal National Park, Guatemala. It is currently listed on Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES 2007). Due to the ongoing high level of habitat loss in the region, it is recommended that the population should be monitored at regular intervals to detect any declines. This species is inconspicuous even in full bloom and tends to grow on twigs of tall trees, often being found by collectors on fallen branches and so may be frequently overlooked (Romero-Gonzalez and Fernandez-Concha 2005). This may help explain the lack specimen data for this species despite its large range. Establishment of plants in private and state owned conservation sites in southern Guatemala (e.g., Monterrico and Finca Chojoja in Mazatenango Suchitepequez) is recommended (F. Achila pers. comm. January 2014).
