This species is abundant in Cuba, where it is distributed throughout the country with an estimated number of mature individuals greater than 10,000. The species is widespread on the island of Hispaniola. Overall, the number of locations may exceed 100.  The population is considered to be stable, as observed by populations in the field and inferred by the species' tolerance to disturbed habitat conditions and its persistence in deforested areas.
