This palm species generally grows as isolated individuals or in small groups. There are dense stands on the outskirts of the city of Paso de los Libres forming palm groves (Grassia 2017).

This species is under threat from agricultural development of its habitat, especially for the intensive cultivation of watermelons, cattle production and by forestry activity with planting of pines and eucalyptus.

This species is listed as Endangered by Salariato et al. (2021). Part of the population is protected in the Tres Cerros Reserve. Managers of agricultural land supporting an important subpopulation have been informed on the importance of protecting the species (Grassia 2017). This species is recorded in two ex situ collections (BGCI 2021).
