This species is highly threatened as the area where tourist activities take place is located near the population of Buerretiokentia koghiensis. The main threats identified are land clearing due to the development of tourist activities, seed collection and impacts of invasive species (rats, deer and pigs).

Burretiokentia koghiensis is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud. Prospection in Vallée de la Thy is recommended. This species would benefit from ex situ and in situ emergency conservation actions as well as invasive species control. It is also recommended to improve the knowledge of the species (ecological monitoring), and list the species on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). And lastly, as the species is present in a private properties, raising awareness of the owners and tourists is advised.
