No numerical population information is available. It has a very wide distribution, occurring in 11 ecoregions, in lowland and montane, forest habitats, over a c. 1,800 m elevational range and, as there is much remaining habitat in some areas of its range, it is suspected that the population will not be small. It is noted to be 'not uncommon' all over Java, but it is confined to the mountains (Comber 1990). However, the current population trend is unknown as undisturbed forest habitat remains, but there are ongoing threats and forest losses in some areas within the range, for example, in Java most lowland forest has been lost to agricultural development. Although it is suspected that overall population declines, over its very wide range, will be insufficient to trigger a threatened category under criterion A there is no information with which to enumerate percentage population reduction.

The habitat for this orchid has been lost from many lowland areas, for example, the lowland areas, valleys and some slopes in Sulawesi are largely deforested (Vermeulen and O' Byrne 2011) and in Java it is confined to the mountains (Comber 1990). In the Ruteng protected area in Flores the lowland forest in particular has been subject to illegal logging and local villages have exploited the forest resources and cleared areas, for example for eucalyptus plantations (Simbolon 1999). Habitat loss is suspected to be ongoing in some areas. The forests on New Caledonia have suffered large losses from logging, mining, cattle ranches and cattle grazing. Only 10% of rain forest is undisturbed (Wikramanayake et al. 2002).

Herbarium specimens of this species are only known from a few protected areas within its wide range, the Hunstein Range Wildlife Management Area in Papua New Guinea, which is a densely forested and very sparsely inhabited area (Cox and Emmel 2010), the c. 320 km2 Ruteng Nature Recreation Park in Flores (although this is only an IUCN management category V area) and the Gede Pangrango National Park in Java, a c. 220 km2 protected area (Protected Planet 2018). It is also reported to grow naturally in Bali Botanic Garden (Lungrayasa and Mudiana 2000). It was recorded in primary forest on Mt Batukau, in Bali, and Wibowo et al. (2015) note that more effort is needed to preserve this area and Wikramanayake et al. (2002) note that less than 3% of dry and rainforest habitats is within effectively managed protected areas in New Caledonia. It is known from one ex situ conservation site (BGCI 2017). Research is needed to provide further information about the population size, distribution and trends and research to understand the life history and ecology of this species would be beneficial to enable the identification of any specific threats that may be operational, for example, to pollinators or important mycorrhizal associates.
