État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
No numerical population information is available, but it is reported to be rare in the Khao Yai National Park, Thailand (Cumberledge 1963). The current population trend is unknown. Schuiteman and De Vogel (2005) note that Bulbophyllum species of the section Epicrianthes, at least in New Guinea, are often quite uncommon in the wild.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
In Dong Phayayen- Khao Yai forest Complex there is some illegal logging, tourist pressure, highway expansion and the Huay Samong Dam has been constructed (but mostly on former agricultural land) and shifting cultivation encroaches into forest around the national park's perimeter (IUCN 2016, BirdLife International 2019), but these are not considered to constitute major threats to this species. Similarly, there are tourist pressures and some illegal agricultural encroachment into the Taman Negara National Park in Malaysia (BirdLife International 2003), but not thought to be major threats for this species here. In Viet Nam the falls where it was found still have natural vegetation but are completely surrounded by agricultural development. Species of the genus Bulbophyllum are popular with orchid enthusiasts and may be targeted for collection from the wild and this is a potential threat to this species.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
This orchid has been recorded from the Dong Phayayen- Khao Yai forest Complex, UNESCO World Heritage protected area, of 6,155 km2 in Thailand which has a good state of conservation (IUCN 2016) and the 4,525 km2 Taman Negara National Park in Malaysia. In Thailand this species has been assessed as Vulnerable (Chamchumroon 2017). It is not known to be conserved ex situ (BGCI 2019) and this species belongs to the section Epicrianthes, members of which are notorious for being difficult to grow for longer periods of time (Schuiteman and De Vogel, 2005), as they usually cannot be propagated by division, unlike many other species of the genus Bulbophyllum. This makes ex situ conservation challenging. Research is needed to understand the life history and ecology of this species is required to identify any specific threats that may be operational, for example, to pollinators or important mycorrhizal associates, and to provide information about the population size, distribution and trends.
