This species is known from ca 16 localities. This grass grows in large clumps and is reported to be locally very common and abundant (Reeder and Reeder 1963). The size and dynamics of the population are unknown.

There are no known direct threats to the survival of this wide ranging, locally abundant species which appears to be able to regenerate and persist in disturbed habitats.
