Description complète des menacesExpert
The most significant threat to this species is the loss of cloud forest habitat in the tropical Andes, caused by deforestation and conversion of land for agriculture. Large areas of montane forests have been cleared due to the extensive cultivation of opium poppies. The spread of chemical herbicides through rivers and streams also poses a threat to plant species. Road building and dam construction may cause habitat fragmentation (Conservation International 2007)

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
A network of protected areas conserves some of the most important remaining intact ecosystems covering 8% of the Tropical Andes hotspot. However, adequate enforcement and monitoring is required to prevent damage by settlement, poaching and illegal deforestation. A relict cloud forest, La Oscurana (Cajamarca), has been discovered in which this species occurs, and for which conservation is said to be urgent (Ayasta 2005).
