This species is protected in the forest reserves. However, there maybe future threats by changes of temperature and rainfall caused by climate change.

This species is recommended to be conserved in ex situ. In addition, more detail survey on the population size, trend and distribution should be carried out.
The locality from which this species was found at the Belalong River is now placed within the larger part of the Batu Apoi Forest that in 1991 was given status as national park (Ulu Temburong NP). In July 2019, at Belalong, the forest upstream from the junction of Belalong and Temburong rivers was still completely intact and the population showed good numbers since the level of protection has gone up (A. Poulsen pers. comm. 2019).
