The subpopulation in Viet Nam is very small with less than 30 mature individuals. The subpopulation on the Andaman Islands numbers between 1,000 to 2,000 mature individuals and stable. The population size in Thailand is not known but it appears to be scarce although this country has more localities for this species than any other of the range states.

The locality Tak, North of Ban Ta Song Yang is not in a protected area, and it is assumed that it would be affected in the future by human activities particularly urban expansion. Three of the four known localities in Thailand are outside of protected areas and close to growing cities.
