This is a very rare plant species, however, the detailed population size is not known. During a recent study, 12 mature individuals were recorded by Chowlu and Jalal (2018), and the actual population size is suspected to be composed of fewer than 50 mature individuals. The known population is located in the buffer zone of a protected area. A decrease in population trend is suspected, but it is not known if there is a continuing decline in the number of mature individuals.

All orchid species are included under Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The Government of India has banned the export for commercial purposes of all wild-taken specimens of species included in Appendices I, II and III, except cultivated varieties of plant species included in Appendices I and II accompanied by a CITES Comparable Certificate issued by the competent authorities of India (CITES Notif. No. 2018/031).
The known localities fall in the buffer zone of a protected area (Sessa Orchid Sanctuary) near a village known as Sessa. The habitat is disturbed due to illicit felling of its host trees. Therefore, strict protection of the entire area is very much in needed.
Further research is required to understand the current distribution of this species, and it should be reassessed if more information becomes available.
