Betula schmidtii is reported as held in 61 ex situ collections (BGCI 2017). This species is listed as Vulnerable in the in the Red Data book of the Russian Federation (A. Baryshenko 2008). In the Chinese Red List this species is assessed as NT (Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Chinese Academy of Sciences 2014).
