Four subpopulations of this species have historically been recorded from a very restricted area. However, in 2010, the total number of mature individuals found within the Marojejy Protected Area was three (Rajaovelona pers. comm. 2010), and the total population size is estimated to be fewer than 50. The population of Benthamia majoriflora is currently suspected to be decreasing since its habitat is threatened by illegal agricultural activities and forest cutting.
