Description complète des menacesExpert
Halmahera still has extensive intact rainforests across much of the island. Though there has been some deforestation, between 2001 and 2020 the estimated total forest loss across the island and its surrounding islands was less than 7% (Global Forest Watch 2021). There are moratoriums on several large areas of forest on the island. However, logging companies have exploited the lowland forests of northwest Halmahera and in the east of the island, pulp plantations are also threatening the forests (Morrison 2001). Additionally, there are multiple mining concessions on the island, including in the Weda Bay area, which is a major potential threat to this species' habitat. Bau Island appears to have some intact habitat, though land use data shows that the majority of the island is covered by a concession for coconut palm. Though the impact of these threats on this species is currently unknown, there is clear evidence of a decline in the extent, quality and area of its habitat at all of the known locations.
