There is no information on the population size of this species. It was recorded as common at Anomi in the Kebar Valley (Koster #BW 6867 (MO)). Based on there being only low levels of habitat loss at and around the localities from which this species has been recorded, and no other direct threats being identified, its population trend is suspected to be stable.

Since 2010, Indonesian New Guinea has become a focus point for the establishment of new plantations, due to ever decreasing availability of land in other parts of Indonesia (Runtuboi et al. 2020). Road expansion is also predicted to accelerate conversion of forest to plantations and other land use changes. However, rates of deforestation currently remain relatively low; as of 2019, 83% of Indonesian New Guinea still supported primary forest, with around 2% of this being cleared between 2001 and 2019 (Gaveau et al. 2021). Aside from some local deforestation around several localities, the remaining localities appear from satellite imagery (Global Forest Watch 2021) to still have extensive intact or relatively undisturbed forest in the surrounding areas. However, only two localities fall within protected areas, with the remaining localities being vulnerable to future deforestation as plantation establishment continues to grow. In fact, there are several logging concessions within this species' range.

This species has been recorded from Teluk Bintuni nature reserve and Pegunungan Arfak nature reserve (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2021). There are no ex situ sites according to PlantSearch (BGCI 2021) but there is a specimen in cultivation at Bogor (Wiriadinata 2009).
