This species is known from 27 herbarium specimens collected between 1908 and 2023. It is known to be very common in Thailand, in particular it has been found in many places in southern Thailand including many national parks. One specimen label describes it as a common shrub in the wet locality in scrub forest (Smitinand #6596 (P)). However, no direct population data are available for this species and the current population trend is unknown.

There is no specific conservation action plan in place for this species, but it is recorded as being in ex situ cultivation in one botanic garden (BGCI 2024). This species has been recorded from many protected areas and national parks in Thailand including Khao Yai National Park, Mu Ko Chang National Park, Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary, Chalerm Phrakiat Somdej Phrathep Ratchasuda Wildlife Sanctuary, Bang Lang National Park. In Malaysia it is located within Gunung Stong Sate Park and Taman Negara National Park (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2024).
